Applebee’s came to us with a request to update their current lifestyle photography library. They had a handful of shots they wanted to capture, but overall asked for us to produce a shoot that would not only be on brand, but tell a story of the entire customer experience. I ended up taking on and leading this project from start to finish.
My Process
-
1. Tone + Mood
How is this going to look? What do we want to achieve?
I developed a moodboard of lighting, tone, and personality to use as a guiding light for the full production.
-
2. Select Photographer
With the help of the production team, I looked through numerous photographer portfolios and conducted interviews to decide on the perfect fit for this production.
-
3. Shot List
I created an in-depth shot list, building out each scene for all the shots to help us tell a story of the full customer experience and inner workings of a restaurant. I planned every location throughout the restaurant even down to what they were eating and drinking.
-
4. Casting
Using the scenes I created as a starting point, I went through hundreds of casting portfolios to choose the entire cast. Building out groups of families, friends, and employees that would create a realistic perspective of the everyday customer.
-
5. Wardrobe & Propping
I had two days of virtual wardrobe fittings for each person in every scene. I planned their main outfits as well as backups for background talent. I then went through the restaurant to figure out what props we needed on the tables as well as any specific props we wanted to showcase.
-
6. Final Selects
After the full production had been shot, I then combed through the thousands of shots to choose final selects. In the end the library shows the full experience and little retouching was needed.
